Four candidates running for Congress made statements to voters at a special town hall meeting Saturday.
The event took place at the Chico Women’s Club on the east block of 3rd Street from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
More than half of those in attendance stood, with over 200 present and only 100 seats available.
The candidates who spoke at the event are running against the current representative of the district, Doug LaMalfa. Audrey Denney (D), Jessica Holcombe (D), Lewis Elbinger (G) and Marty Walters (D) all made statements at the meeting.
Lewis Elbinger is running as the Green Party candidate.
"(People want to) be represented by who we are today," Marty Walters said. "A grassroots campaign is what is necessary."
The candidates spoke about their platforms and expressed different changes they hope to make. Asked about public education, candidate Jessica Holcombe said, “It’s high time we have free public universities.”
