Women of all backgrounds and allies gathered to celebrate womanhood through activism, song, dance and a shared meal for International Women’s Day.
Denney, an educator from Chico with an agricultural background, is also running in the Democratic primary for District 1 Congress. She recalled a transformative moment while having a conversation with her sister, Amy, about how incredible it was to see an unprecedented amount of women and young people lining up to run for office.

Organizers of the Chico Women’s March celebrated International Women’s Day at Chico State University with a rally, music, activism and speeches from local candidates for office, including Audrey Denney, a congressional candidate, and Sonia Aery, who is running for state Assembly.
International Woman's Day kicked off Thursday at Chico State University with live musical performances, poetry readings, and speeches from female candidates for office.
Crowds gathered in the university's Trinity Commons as the speeches got underway. Tables and booths were set up by student organizers who where there to promote their club or organization.
